VARIETAL FACTS
Pinot Blanc [pee-no blahnk]

Definition: A white grape. According to some experts it's not actually in the Pinot family. According to others, it is.

Grown primarily in: Canada, France-Alsace, Germany and United States

Best Climate: Cool

Winemaking: Pinot blanc is usually vintified the same way chardonnay is. Since it's slightly more delicate in body than chardonnay, ML and oak treatments are generally less.

Nose: Spicy, floral, tropical fruit, citrus, apple.

Mouth: Light to medium body, fruity, spicy. Medium to strong acids.

Note: Much of the pinot blanc planted in the United States is actually melon. There are some vineyards that have the true varietal.
