Definition: The same red grape as Cot, Cahors or Auxerrois in Cahors; the Cot in the Loire Valley; and the Pressac in St.-Emillion.

Grown primarily in: Argentina, Australia, France, Italy and United States

Best Climate: Warm to Hot

Winemaking: Usually used in blends with cabernet sauvignon. In the Loire it's blended with tannat. Produced the same way as cabernet sauvignon. Benefits from some oak aging.

Nose: Red and black fruits, earthy, truffles, dark chocolate..

Mouth: Full body, medium tannins, has texture.

Note: Known as the "Black Wine" due to its deep color. Accounts for 2/3 of Argentina's red wines.
